Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard court since that period of 2023.
Victory also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to get a title is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter my daughter was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his skill to perform at the elite level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and perform positively, backed up by an improved serve.
The champion fought back from a break down in the first set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his initial tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.
He saved four early break points in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
